Ravihari, S. Sunflower & Moonflower, 2021

On chilly nights and sweaty days

I came out every day in the celestial-city

As the moon once and as the sun once

It felt like a passing of an eternity

I shined so bright I shined so light

In solitude looking over the great mountains

Tired of watching the world through my beams

Until one day I found you, I found the one

As the moonflower, calm and twined-down neck

As the sunflower, face up so bright and yellow

You became both to make my day and night better

Watching me over from the ground below

Let my tears be rain that soothes, let my smiles be rays that nurture

In a promise to love one another, May the spring come in our future

Notes:
This is a simple sonnet about how the Moon and the Sun were tired of waiting, after having continuous cycles of appearing on the sky every day alone and sad, until the Moonflower and the Sunflower bloomed in the presence of the Sun and the Moon. The Sunflower represents loyalty and unconditional friendship. Between the Sun and the Sunflower, there is a relationship beyond the simple receive, the sunflower does not wait, but goes in search of the Sun. That’s why it’s the flower that most expresses fidelity. Like a partner, who is loyal and constant. Also, it might not be as pretty as a rose but it’s more bright and confident. The Moonflower, because they only bloom at night in the presence of the Moon, it is a metaphor for the fact that out of the darkness comes creative blossoming. To be at peace is a must needed quality for me to read, paint, or be creative. I dedicated this poem to my husband.
